Conclave is just around the corner. All DeMolays
should have received a letter with a registration form
enclosed, so if you didn't talk to your district
governor, as he should have extra forms for you.
Please fill out those forms and send them into your
governors as soon as possible.
Our theme this year is medieval, so feel free to show
your medieval side, but please use judgement and do
not wear or bring anything inappropriate. Rule of
thumb: don't bring anything to DeMolay that you
wouldn't, couldn't, or shouldn't bring to school.
I hope to see all of you there; I know it's going
to be a blast!
So this is it, my last E-Connection article. It has
truly been a pleasure to serve you, the young men of
Ohio DeMolay as your State Master Councilor. I've
never been a man of many words, so I don't have
much more to say. I look forward to meeting some
of you in the Masonic community.
Again, I thank you for this wonderful opportunity,
and I hope that all of you will stay active in DeMolay
and support the youth groups.
Remember: you are the future.
In DeMolay Service,
Edward A. Jones
State Master Councilor 2005-2006

| From your SSC- A spaghetti day keeps chapter bills at bay. |
 |
|
July is here and with it comes a great time for
Spaghetti Dinners.
A Spaghetti Dinner is very easy to do. All that you
have to do is make up some flyers that say who you
are and what you are raising money for and distribute
them around town: especially to your local lodges.
Do an estimate on how many people will be coming to
the dinner based on how many tickets you sell. Take
that number, divide it by 3, and that is the number of
pounds of noodles that you should buy. Go to
Gordon’s Food Service and buy the big jars of sauce;
make sure you buy enough for everyone.
Last, think
about talking to some of the local grocery stores or
even companies like Prego, Ragu, and noodle
companies to see if they would donate some sauce
or noodles to the cause.
Good luck and see you at Conclave!

While the sun is setting on some Master Councilor’s
terms and
installation season is already in full swing let’s focus
on using a
chapter installation as a form of membership activity.
For every
installation it is encouraged that the members, and
mostly the
councilors, bring their family. Why not bring
prospective members to
an installation?
The installation ceremony may seem boring to some
members but to those who have never seen ritual
work done before it
can be a great way to introduce a prospect to what
DeMolay is. The
hardest thing to get across to a prospect is the idea
of ritual.
Seeing it in motion and well performed can be quite
impressive to a
young man. Once the prospect has been impressed
with formal aspect
of DeMolay follow up the installation with a fun
activity like a
reception and/or dance.
This one-two punch of fun activities is sure
to wow a prospect and educate him as to what
DeMolay is all about.

| Our Task |
 |
|
About a hundred and fifty miles from Tucson,
Arizona, a lonely prospector has lighted each night a
lantern atop a long pole to guide those who might go
astray upon the desert waste. No one has asked him
to do this service these many years, but undoubtedly
a sense of duty for his fellows, has made him do his
bit in this wasteland.
If your DeMolay Chapter lights its beacon upon a
hilltop to aid those who might come within the
beneficence of its rays, for the purpose only of
pleasure or personal gain, then you and your chapter
have failed to catch the vision of real service. If your
group is not adding intellectual force, to the
individual as well as to the community, then your
structure is "builded on sand" and the foundation will
surely crumble.
If DeMolay is merely a lodge in your community, a
miniature dancing academy or a place where only fun
abounds, then you and your colleagues have failed to
catch the vision.
The beacon lights of DeMolay upon a thousand
hilltops throughout this nation must lead young men
to higher ideals and greater service to their fellows,
that they may be worthy of a priceless heritage.
I hope that you have that vision. The Order of
DeMolay is not a lodge nor is it a fraternity, except
by way of a confederated youth. It is not an asylum
for the mental defective, a reformatory, or the
drawing room of a nation. It is a semi-educational
and benevolent society striving to arouse into action
the future leaders of the world.
This Movement has enjoyed the blessings of Divine
Providence: it has developed in a period of a few
years from a few boys into the third largest youth
movement in the world. I am not fanatically religious
but I can say that Divine Power has manifested itself
so often in the molding of this Movement, that I have
come to the realization that God is performing His
miracles today, among men and institutions, as He
did centuries ago.
We who are entrusted with this duty, and he who
wears the emblem of this society, must become
profoundly aware of the nearness of Him who brings
to successful conclusion, our duties, our tasks, and
our happiness. God is the keystone of our structure
and in Him is all power to aid us, as an institution, or
as an individual.
DeMolay is now in the laboratory; it is being tried by
test tube and standard, to discover its weaknesses
and to fortify its strength. Every DeMolay, every
Chapter, and every man, who has the interest of this
organization at heart, must show by his actions and
by his leadership of others, that the Order of
DeMolay is truly a brotherhood of exceptional
service. Are you doing your part in the crusade?

Please take time to read the “News and Views” link
off the web site on a frequent basis. You'll find out
details about many interesting things happening
throughout Ohio.
- I put a few facts at the end of this which I think
are very interesting and underline the point that Ohio
MUST step to the plate on membership if we want to
be among the leaders in the country. While we are
now #2 in total membership (partially due to Hawaii
being added to Northern California), Indiana is quickly
coming on and is less than 100 members behind Ohio
in total membership. You can also note that most of
the top states in new members are also some of the
larger states in size. But when you look at the whole
picture (including Majorities), we really need to work
just to keep pace with the larger jurisdictions or Ohio
could quickly slide in total membership from #2 to
working to stay in the top 10.
- DeMolay International held its annual session in
Seattle, Washington June 14-18 and Ohio was well
represented. MWB C. Michael Watson was elected
Grand Junior Councilor (Ohio DeMolay plans that C.
Michael Watson will be elected and installed as Grand
Master of DeMolay International in 2008) and J.
Randolph Clark from Cincinnati was elected to Deputy
Membership in DeMolay International.
Congratulations to all who were elected to receive
honors at the Annual DeMolay International session:

| DeMolay Quick Trivia |
 |
|
Last Month's Question: Which DeMolay
chapter holds the title of being the oldest continually
active DeMolay Chapter in the world?
Hint: I'm the largest city in my state as well as the
birthplace of a president who served while the Ford
Pinto was in production.
Answer:Omaha Chapter in Omaha, Nebraska
Gerald Ford Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr. (born July 14,
1913 as Leslie Lynch King) was the 38th (1974–1977)
President of the United States and the 40th (1973–
1974) Vice President. Ford was born in Omaha,
Nebraska.
He was the first person appointed to the Vice-
Presidency under the terms of the 25th Amendment,
and upon succession to the presidency became the
first (and to date, only) President in U.S. history to
fill that office without having been elected either
President or Vice President.
The Ford Pinto was an American subcompact car
manufactured by the Ford Motor Company, first
introduced in 1971, and built through the 1980 model
year. Like many Ford cars, it had a "twin": in the
Pinto's case, the Mercury Bobcat, introduced in
Canada in 1974 and then in the U.S. for 1975.
Introduced in the same time frame as the Chevrolet
Vega and AMC Gremlin, the Pinto was the most
successful of the U.S. designs, and was the basis for
the upcoming Mustang II.
For many years Ford had sold small models from its
British line as captive imports, including the Ford
Cortina. The Pinto's design began in 1968 under the
direction of Ford executive Lee Iacocca. The Pinto
was replaced by the Escort for the 1981 model year.

Greetings Members and Friends of Ohio DeMolay:
I have been honored this
year to work for you as your State
Scribe. I hope that you all have found the
E-Connection to be a helpful tool and enjoyable to
read.
Each member and advisor of every chapter really
put forth a lot of effort into this Order, and to them
we owe a great deal of thanks.
We have one event left for the year, and I know
that it will be a great time. On July 27-30th I'm sure
that I will see a great showing at our annual
Conclave. As a new core of officers is installed, I
wish them the best of luck in the upcoming year. I
know that Brother Loose has been working diligently
so that in this next year Ohio DeMolay will shine
throughout DeMolay International.
I'm confident that that the next State Scribe will
continue to fill the E-Connection with lots of
information and fun activities.
I will leave you with a favorite quote:
Change is the law of life. And those who look only to
the past or present are certain to miss the future. –
