Brethren,
What an exciting month! It all started off in Upper Sandusky with the Wyandot
County Fair. After spending more hours at the fair booth in the week than
most people spend at their jobs I am pleased to say that the chapter did well
and had a lot of fun. On the 16th I had the pleasure of Installing Brother
Marc Chong as the Master Councilor of Linden Chapter and I look for him to be
a strong leader for that Chapter. The very next day I had the pleasure of
participating in the FIRST Installation of Van Wert Chapter. Brother Zach
Reichert has been building that Chapter from the ground up and it is very
exciting to see all of his hard work materializing. Ottawa Chapter is one in
particular that is doing some exciting things; initiating 2 new members at
each of their last two meetings. Sam is the Senior Councilor and is only 2
members away from earning his way to Winterfest. Remember guys that only 5
new members will get you a free trip to Winterfest in January. I next
traveled to the Grand Order of Eastern Star and talked about the benefits of
DeMolay. After the Banquet I made it over to the Third District for the
Sweetheart Ball. One new young lady as the District Sweetheart, two new young
ladies as Chapter Sweethearts, and a lot of excited DeMolays in the Third
District. On the last day of the month I traveled all the way down to
Ironton. Ironton is in such an interesting location that the State Senior
Councilor went through West Virginia to get there because it was honestly
faster. My fellow State Officer Bro. Andrew Mershon was installed as Master
Councilor and I am looking for some good things to come out of that Chapter.
The Most exciting thing this month was the confirmation of the Winterfest
Location. Winterfest will be in Columbus this year at the Fort Rapids Indoor
Water Park. Wait; did I just say Indoor Water Park? YES, Winterfest will be
at an Indoor Water Park. This place is amazing! They have a 5,000 square foot
arcade, 7 water slides, and a 1,000 Gallon Bucket that fills and dumps every
10 minutes. SEVEN WATER SLIDES!!! Take a look at www.fortrapids.c om click on Water Park, then
features and take a look at the picture of the Black Out Pass. Ever wonder
what it would feel like to get flushed down a toilet? You may just get the
chance to find out.
See you all soon!
Fraternally,
Bro. Craig A. Loose
State Master Councilor

Fund raising the Scary way!
Here’s an idea
to make some money for your chapter this Halloween season. Many local Masonic
bodies will hold haunted hayrides, houses, corn mazes and the like. Have your
chapter help out with the festivities or your chapter could sell goodies at
the event and ask for a donation from the body for your contributions. While
at the haunted _fill in the blank_ be sure to give it your all,
showmanship is the most important part of this performance. And don’t
forget that getting customers to talk about your scene or participation is a
sure ticket to be invited back the for the event next year.

Please take time to read the “News
and Views” link off the web site on a frequent basis. You'll find
out details about many interesting things happening throughout Ohio.
1. Some big changes are going to be happening in Ohio DeMolay soon when it
comes to the Adult Leadership side. After a long an extensive search, I have
found the person to lead our Ohio DeMolay Development Team. Dad Greg Kita has
agreed to accept this responsibility. I will be working directly with the
Ohio DeMolay Development Team and they will be working to help train and
provide assistance for the Governors and Deputies around Ohio. This team will
consist of around 5-7 individuals and there will be representatives from
every part of the state on the team so there is a local representative who
can be called upon to assist every District and Chapter. So if you District
currently does not have Deputies, expect them to have them soon. If your
District does not currently have Inspections, expect them to have them soon.
If your Chapter needs help planning and running activities, expect help soon.
Under the new structure, the Ohio DeMolay Development Team will report directly
to me but they will be an available resource for every Governor, Deputy, and
Chapter. The Governors will still lead the Districts but the Deputies are
going to take a much bigger role and will be working closer with the local
Chapters so the Governors can focus more on long term direction and growth.
2. Van Wert Chapter is officially operating. On September 17th, they held
their first ever Installation of officers. I was fortunate enough to be able
to make the event and the DeMolay’s were very excited but I was even
more excited to see several adults on the sidelines to support the young men.
3. I hope to see everyone soon at the Fall Workshop. There are many
informative sessions planned to help your Chapter to grow and prosper.
4. Winterfest is coming soon and the details will be released soon but right
now while the price is going to be a little more ($135) there is going to be
A LOT MORE fun available at our new location. Watch for information coming
very soon!
In DeMolay Service,
Dad Shaw

This year has started with a massive success throughout
the state. Every chapter is succeeding in whichever way possible especially
through there activities. Now as state officers we have seen many activities
outside of our home chapters however this month we bring a comment on a
certain activity that took place at the chapter of Painesville. Annually this
chapter hosts a pancake breakfast at “Better In Mentor Days”
located in Mentor, Ohio. This is a massive success in that it builds unity
and creates money for the chapter. Usually being steady pace it is a relaxing
and easy fun filled day. However the pancake lovers were out early that
bright morning and wanted there cakes and grits. A swarm of people came into
the tent raging for there breakfast. Though this did not scare off any of the
guys for through all the frenzy came out many of the precepts we speak of
everyday. Comradeship though the teamwork that prevailed to get the job done,
courtesy to keep our cool and still be polite through all the anger passing
through the crowds at certain points, and cleanness for keeping our booth the
neatest of them all. Also they were able to hand out quite a few petitions to
visiting kids of the breakfast which made the day exceptionally worth the
effort. We look forward to seeing many more of the precepts come to view
throughout not only at chapter activities but the rest of the states and
order of demo lay’s as well. Keep your eyes open you never know when
one of us state officers might just stop in on you.

A Sweet Way to Get Members
Gentlemen after
pondering many a thought as to how to make DeMolay more exciting; but I kept
getting distracted by the idea girls. Then BAM! The answer couldn't be
clearer if it had fallen out of the sky, landed in front of me and started to
dance. You want to get and keep guys interested then get permission from your
advisors to start a chapter sweet heart program. To show your advisors how
serious you are, a good fundraiser is needed to fund this young lady. Believe
you me gentlemen women are expensive in any realm. If your wondering a sweet
heart is a female representative for DeMolay. If you don't think having a
sweetheart is a successful idea have yourself a chat with either the second
or third districts; both of whom run successful programs. A sweetheart's job
consists of what ever you and the advisors come up with. The selection is
made by a sweetheart competition or volunteer.
Equipment needed Crown sash
So, the answer to getting guys interested in DeMolay is indeed girls
