Brethren,
WOW! What a month! I don’t think January could have been more exciting.
We kicked it off at the wettest Winterfest ever where we had seven,7, SEVEN
watersides. Whether guys were playing Halo on the projectors, exploring the
Water Park, or being tormented in our version of DeMolay Distraction,
everyone seemed to be having fun. If you missed this amazing slip-sliding
event then you will just have to wait until next January when the next State
Master Councilor continues the fun! The fun continued straight into the
Installation for Groveport Chapter. Jordan Myers was installed as Master
Councilor and I can’t wait to see how well he does. That next Monday I
was able to help initiate my roommate at college into Linden Chapter. He was
certainly excited to finally be a member and I was ecstatic to be able to
help him join. With him joining I have now been the 1st line signer on 18
petitions and am trying hard to make it to 20 by the time I am out. I might
even try for 32 so that I could win the laptop computer Ohio DeMolay is
giving out! However, I think ALL of you should try and win it too. I
don’t know a lot of guys between 12 and 21 who haven’t already
joined but I am sure you do! Just think a little. Who sits at your lunch
table? Are you in Boy Scouts? All of them could join. Do you go to a Church
Youth Group? There are tons of places to find members. I have lots of places
to go this month and I can’t wait to get started. I hope to see all of
you soon!
Fraternally,
Bro. Craig A. Loose
State Master Councilor

Advertise your way
to Cash!
This year there are
only 28 days in February so that means we have less time than usual to make
some money for your chapter. So we need to make the most of our time, so
here’s an idea for getting the word out about your chapter’s
latest and greatest fundraiser.
Advertisement- No one is going to buy what you’re selling if they
don’t know about it! Post flyers in your school, your target audience
isn’t your classmates, they don’t have money to spare. You should
focus on your teachers and other staff. Put a flyer in teacher’s
mailboxes, in the teacher’s lounge, or hand them one in person.
Don’t forget about your local paper! I’m not talking about the
Columbus Dispatch or the Cincinnati Enquirer, I mean your local paper. The
Lakewood Observer, or the Boardman Town Crier. Most local papers are happy to
include a write up about a local community event, like a DeMolay car-wash, or
pancake breakfast. A little advertising can go a long way. So beware of
writers cramp and get the word out!

Please
take time to read the “News
and Views” link off the web site on a frequent basis. You'll find
out details about many interesting things happening throughout Ohio.
1.Winterfest at Fort
Rapids Park is now a part of Ohio DeMolay History and it was an enjoyable
weekend. It was definitely a new experience for Ohio DeMolay. Our current
State Senior Councilor has recommended it be held at the same location next
year and we have locked in for the Friday-Sunday between Christmas and New
Years 2006. There will be a few new surprises at the next Winterfest to try
to get all present a little more involved with the activities.
2. Upper Sandusky Chapter is now part of the 4th DeMolay District. This
change was made to help accommodate some growth occurring in the Toledo
DeMolay District and to better position Upper Sandusky to help assist with
one or two potential new Chapters being discussed in the far northern part of
the 4th DeMolay District.
3. Dad Justin Lowe has been appointed as the new State Council Advisor
replacing Dad Randy Clark who stepped down at Winterfest. We would like to
thank Dad Clark for his service to the Ohio State Council and thank Dad Lowe
for stepping forth to assume this responsibility.
4. Ohio DeMolay will probably soon again be adding new Chapters. Meetings
were held with Middletown, Mason, and Green Springs Lodge to discuss the
possibility of new DeMolay Chapters. Each are very eager to get started and
have around 3-5 adults who have come forth to be trained as advisors.
5. In addition, to the five locations mentioned above for new Chapters, we
also have two to three other locations which have expressed an interest in
getting Chapters reestablished which have gone dark in the past. In addition,
discussions are underway to move two existing Chapters which are not actively
meeting to new locations where 3-5 adults at each location have stepped forth
and agreed to become advisors. In total, all but one district in Ohio is
actively working on new Chapters.
Membership
needs to be a key part of every Chapters plans for 2007. While the newer
Chapters in Ohio are gaining in membership, many of our existing Chapters are
lingering behind in obtaining new members. Please remember....EVERY
Chapter’s survival depends upon new members.
In DeMolay Service,
Dad Shaw
