Conclave Charley

Well, Hey everybody... it seems that Ohio DeMolay Conclave is right around the corner and we have soooo much to tell you about it. Conclave is August 9-12 at Bowling Green State University. It costs $200 and is going to be filled with fun events! Registration forms are available online right Here and are due to your District Governor by July 19th. Everyone I know is going to be there and I know personally I am excited for the Photo Scavenger Hunt. Runnin' around all mornin' lookin' to take pictures of some wild and wacky stuff just gets me excited! I am also really excited about the dance too. If you aren't coming to Conclave for the weekend it is only $5 to come to the Hottest, Funest, most Awesomest dance on the planet. Seein' as it is a Masquerade Ball you probably won't see me there because I'm goin' to be a Stallion, baby! I hope to see all of you there enjoying in the brotherhood at Ohio DeMolay Conclave 2007!

Brethren,

June was certainly a grand month with big conventions and fun events scattered throughout it. DeMolay International Congress was this past month in St. Louis, MO and boy was it fun. We got a lot done for the order and I am truly pleased that Bro. Austin Whittaker from Tennessee was elected the 41st International Master Councilor and Bro. Brandon "Buddy" Herring was elected International Congress Secretary. Congratulations to both of these brothers for there accomplishments and best wishes in the future. Ohio Job's Daughters held there Grand Session and Mrs. Kris Smith became the new Grand Guardian. Bro. Chris Diaz was installed Master Councilor of Groveport this past weekend and I look for good things to come from that Chapter.
I am extremely pleased to tell you all about the newest Chevaliers in Ohio DeMolay! Bro. Brandon Bolyard, Linden Chapter, Dad and former Bro. Don Thompson, Groveport Chapter, and Bro. Jacob Wrightsman, Upper Sandusky Chapter, all were elevated to the rank and dignity of a Chevalier of the Order of DeMolay and I congratulate all of them for this well deserved distinction.
The Ohio DeMolay Hall of Fame was officially started this past Saturday with 4 recipients becoming Charter Members. Dad Merlyn Meredith, Dad Steve Krekus, Dad Chester Hodges, and Dad Mark Loose were all inducted into the hall. Congratulations to these honorees!
Brethren, please remember that Conclave is coming up in one short month and that your registration forms are due to your District Governors by July 19th. I hope to see you all around the state during this month. Safe travels and God Bless.

Fraternally,

Bro. Craig A. Loose
State Master Councilor

Think your Chapter has an event worth mentioning, invite the SMC and read his Article to find out if you are right

Brother MARK A. LOOSE was the only Ohioan to serve as International Master Councilor (IMC) of DeMolay. He began his leadership as a youth in the Upper Sandusky DeMolay Chapter. In 1974-1975, he presided as State Master Councilor in Ohio and became International DeMolay of the Year, before being elected IMC in 1975. He was a member of Warpole Lodge in Upper Sandusky, but his service to DeMolay and Freemasonry was cut short by his untimely and unexpected death in 1981 at age 26.
Most Worshipful Brother CHESTER HODGES, of Cincinnati, was Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ohio in 1958-59. He was named Executive Officer for DeMolay in Ohio in 1960, and became the established leader of the organization in the state for more than a quarter century. He stepped down from that position in 1987. In 1971-1972, he served as the International Grand Master of DeMolay, the first such office holder from Ohio. Most Worshipful Brother Hodges died in 1995 at age 87.
Most Worshipful Brother STEVEN J. KREKUS has been a DeMolay leader at Chapter, District, State, and National levels. He has been active for many years in Symbolic Lodge and Scottish Rite activities in the Cleveland and Northeast Ohio area and is a Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge, F.&A.M., of Ohio. He is a Past DeMolay Executive Officer of Ohio and currently is serving as an Active Member of the Supreme Council of DeMolay International.
Most Illustrious Companion MERLYN E. MEREDITH has been a DeMolay youth and adult leader at all levels for nearly 70 years. He has attended 69 consecutive Ohio DeMolay Conclaves. He is currently an Emeritus Member of the Supreme Council of DeMolay International, and is a Past Executive Officer of DeMolay in Ohio. Active in top leadership positions in Lodge, York Rite and Scottish Rite, Most Illustrious Companion Meredith is a Past Most Illustrious Grand Master of Grand Council, R.&S.M., of Ohio, and currently serves as its Grand Recorder.
We here, in Ohio DeMolay, are pleased to enshrine these four charter members of the Ohio DeMolay Hall of Fame and we thank them for the effort and dedication that led to their induction.

The 25th of August will be the first event for Bro. Eric Small's SMC year it will be a state wide initiation and paintball to be held at the Aladdin shrine in Columbus ohio. With registration starting at 9am and the initiation beginning at 10.
Please start planning now.

Stained glassStrategy meeting !

Let's sit down and talk strategy. There are two different strategies when looking at fundraising. One is to rely on one big fundraiser to bring in all or most of your chapter's money for the term, and another is to have several small fundraisers to bring in funds over the course of the entire term. Each plan has its ups and downs, lets have a look at each.
Having one large fundraiser frees up a lot of your chapter's time that won't be spent on fundraising events. Upper Sandusky for example runs a booth at their local fair which brings in on average enough money for the chapter to have pizza after each meeting. Now that's not only a lot of pizza, but also a lot of money. There's a downside to this plan in that if something were to happen to this one fundraiser the chapter would be in some financial trouble in the way of expenses.
The other plan is to do several small fundraisers throughout the course of a term. The up side to this plan is that if one of these fundraisers fails to bring in the expected profits then the loss isn't that big. Youngstown chapter uses this plan and has a bake sale in conjunction with it's sponsoring body's monthly breakfasts and is currently on track to fully pay for their insurance for 2008. The downside to this plan is that a lot of time has to be spent fundraising and that can require a lot of dedication throughout the term from your chapter's members
