Making A Difference

September, 2009

From The Station In The East

by Sean Carr

 Brethren of Ohio DeMolay,

I would like to express my deepest gratitude for all who helped to make the 2009 Statewide Initiation and Paintball all that it could be. The ceremony ran smoothly and I heard of many good impressions that were left on our new brothers.  That being said, I could not have been more thrilled with the candidate attendance as we all now have 17 new friends we have accepted and may now call brothers of our great Order.  That made this year's initiation the largest Statewide for new members in a few years.  And for that, I congratulate the chapters and the young men who went out and spread the good word of DeMolay to make it all possible.  We all have each other to thank for the dedication and interest devoted to the growth of our Order.  Way to go guys!

To the new members, welcome and I hope you find as much profit and as much enjoyment as I have received from DeMolay.  May you be able to achieve more than any of us ever thought possible and have the time of your life in the process.

To those who participated in paintball, I hope that the bruises heal quickly and don't get in the way of attending school.  I noticed many tie-dyed clothes during the progress of the day and some participants appeared as though they were looking for a new hair color but I witnessed nothing but smiling faces and excitement.  I hope everyone had a good time and is looking forward to returning next year.

The next state event will be Statewide Ritual Competition and State Officer Reception on December 12th at Hamilton Temple but more will be announced later.

Thank you all, and let's have a great year for Ohio DeMolay.

Fraternally,

Sean Carr

From the station in the west, I bring you greetings my brothers. First off, I would like to say we are very excited that we initiated 17 new brothers at statewide initiation! Keep up the good work. Membership is an important part of this year's plan, so we must act now!

There are several things that my home chapter, David J. Nye, has done to help membership. First off, we had a day where our chapter went to the Avon Crushers minor league baseball game. The minor league game tickets are fairly cheap, in the range of $5 to $7. The games are very fun and enjoyable. These types of events work well because you can invite members to come, have a good time, and tell them more about DeMolay. We invited 7 prospects to the Crushers game, 4 showed up. After that night we had 4 petitions on their way home, ready to be filled out. We have just recently initiated those boys into our chapter.

Another event that we found to be very successful was a football game and cookout day. Our chapter took all of our members and about 5 prospects to a local park. We grilled up a big o'le plate of burgers and dogs. The boys devoured them, and we proceeded to have a fun game of "touch" football. Every young boy loves to play and be part of the team. Overall, it's a pretty good prospect event.

I understand that it's getting into the school season, sports are starting, and schedules are getting more hectic. However, stick with it and try to plan some fun events to entice new members to get a closer view of our amazing order.

Fraternally,
