Where's Groveport?
The Answer-- Everywhere.
On September 18th, Groveport Chapter ventured to the Old Hilliard Days Festival to sell their world-class
funnelcakes. Approximately $326 were made and Groveport has officially entered its name in the hat (no
Jobie comparison intended) for the State Fundraising Event Competition. The members of Groveport Chapter
had the opportunity to pop-a-cap on September 25th, but due to scheduling conflicts amongst members of the
Shooting Range committee, the event will be postponed to a date to be determined. Columbus Commandery #69
came for our meeting on September 27th, to display one of the drill demonstrations, which we all
appreciated.
October 2nd kicked of the Halloween month with a bang. Bethel #71 threw their first annual Bethel Beau
competition and several studly young men (Yes, we actually mean DeMolays) competed for the prestigious
title. Seth Foley, a Past Master Councilor of Groveport, was elected as the Bethel's first beau, but the
competition was very stiff and all of the competitors should be proud of their performances that evening.
At Groveport Chapter's stated meeting on October 11th, an egg walk was planned and set up for the 16th,
along with a trip to help work the Aladdin Shrine Haunted House later that evening. Unfortunately, due to
a lack of Advisors, the events had to be cancelled. However, Groveport Chapter still plans on aiding the
Aladdin Shriners on October 23rd by using our natural abilities to scare people.
If any of you young men, Advisors, or parents are looking for something to do on October 30th, you are
more than welcome to attend a prospect party involving all three youth bodies at Groveport Masonic Temple.
This is a great chance for everyone to bring their friends, acquaintances, significant others, or anyone
else who would benefit from experiencing the fellowship of DeMolay, Job's Daughters, or Rainbow for
Girls.
The first quarter of the DeMolay year is officially over and it is time for us to submit our forms for
Chapter of the Year. One of the key points of Chapter of the Year is membership-- if you bring in the
most members, you are pretty much a shoe-in. In fact, there is a special bonus if you bring in over four
members between September and December. So, this is our big chance to shine. Let's not let it pass.
--News From Big Red--
Once again, it is my pleasure to greet two new members to our Chapter. We welcome Danny and Paul to our
fraternity.
For those of you that missed the trip to the Renaissance Festival, on October 3, 1999, you certainly
missed a good time. The Job's of Bethel #71 were very gracious hosts of this event. One of the things
I found most interesting was the Chamber of Torture. It showed many of the devices that were used on
Jacques DeMolay and his fellow Knights Templar during their imprisonment.
Remember to keep your eye out for younger boys that would fit into DeMolay. We need more of those 13
year-olds to refill our rank and to win the bet with Dan and Frenchy.
Fraternally,
Dad Close

Meet Dad Fomby
Gentlemen,
I thought this would be a good way to introduce myself to all of you. My name is Dad Ron Fomby
(pronounced Fombee). All of my previous DeMolay involvement was in Illinois. I am a PMC, twice over from
Lakes Chapter which is in Libertyville, a Chicago suburb. I also served two years as an appointed state
officer. As an adult, I served as a Chapter Dad, and Chairman of the Advisory Council. On the state
level, I was the membership advisor and served as judge at several state and regional ritual competitions.
And was also the unofficial state photographer.
Throughout my DeMolay career I was fortunate enough to have been honored several times, but will resist
the temptation to list the alphabet following my name. The honor I am most proud is the Medal of
Appreciation. This honor was granted to me at the request of the young men in my home chapter.
While standing up at fellow Senior DeMolay's wedding in June of 1996, I met my then future wife, Laurie.
I have been in Ohio for two years now after requesting a transfer from my employer, Ameritech, in August
of 1997. Laurie is a Veterinarian and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at OSU. We were married in September
of 1998, and are currently making our home in Grove City with Pryo and Baker, our cats, and Sweet Pea our
beagle.
I am looking forward to working with you in the future and exploring the differences between Illinois and
Ohio. Should you like my help, my number is 614 277-9927.
Sincerely yours,
Dad Ron Fomby
EDITOR'S NOTE: Dad Fomby is too shy to recount his accomplishments, but he holds the Chevalier, Cross of
Honor, Legion of Honor and the Guild of the Leather Apron (Advisor of the year in Illinois).
