What's Goin' Down?
November turned out to be a fun month and December holds even more promise! First of
all, a congratulations needs to be extended to Linden Chapter. The Western Columbus
Warriors played hard and long (just not long enough) at State Flag Football and ended
up making quite the name for themselves... as only a 4th District Chapter can! Better
luck next time, guys. Linden Chapter also had their inspection on November 15, 1999
with the aid of Groveport in regard to preceptors and some DeMolay degree parts. In a
token of brotherhood, members of our sister Chapter came to wish us good will during
our inspection on the 22nd.
Groveport Chapter, the premiere DeMolay degree team in the 4th Region, was also asked
to perform the DeMolay degree at the first annual Cincinnati Regional Initiation on
November 20th. The Chapter did an admirable job, but we still have a ways to go before
its time to show off again in Cleveland on March 6th. Dad Cogley, our Advisory Council
Chairman, was installed on that very same night as Worshipful Master of our sponsoring
body, Groveport Lodge #240; Dad Dickensheets, a past Chapter Dad, was also installed as
Worshipful Master of his lodge, Southgate #692. Groveport Chapter OES also had their
annual installation on November 26th with our very own Dad Parsons going in as Worthy
Patron. Speaking of Worthy Patrons, Dad Thompson was installed as Worthy Patron of
Level Chapter OES, with Mom Thompson by his side as Worthy Matron. However, their
daughter still did not know the capital of Canada without cheating! (Just kidding,
Lisann) Wrapping up the installation flurry, the Jobs Daughters of Bethel #71 were
installed on the evening of December 10th...for some DeMolays it was more memorable
than for others. Beth York is the new Honored Queen, so direct any co-organizational
ideas to her. Be sure to congratulate all of these newly installed leaders of their
orders next time you see them.
Being the party-animals that Groveport Chapter is known to be, we joined with the girls
of Columbus Assembly for a bowling and pizza extravaganza in the middle of the
boondocks, but everyone enjoyed themselves...and the pizza.
In future news, the installations of Linden Chapter and Columbus Assembly will be on
the afternoon and evening of January 22nd. This could also be the same evening as a
spaghetti dinner at Reynoldsburg Lodge, so you will definitely have to clear your
calendar that day. It should also be mentioned that our installation will be on the
evening of January 29th...don't worry, you'll all be home in time for Superbowl Sunday
(the Bengals are going all the way, in case you were wondering!) So look forward to
the next term, but let's not forget to finish the one we've already started. We still
have a solid six weeks before we say goodbye to Brother Cogley, so let's allow him to
go out with a bang!
