Dad Close - Advisor of the Year
Conclave was a very special event for our Chapter Dad, Bruce Close. On Saturday morning,
Bruce was surprised by his entire family who informed him that he had to change into his
white tuxedo to receive the Legion Of Honor, the highest honor that can be given by DeMolay
International. The members of the chapter, Bethel 71 and Bruce's family were there to
witness the event, at Capital University's Mees Hall.
But the fun wasn't over for Dad Close. Dad Close had been told that the winner of the
Guild of the Leather Apron, the award for the outstanding Advisor of the Year, was from
Central Ohio, but he thought is was Dad Rannebarger. During the luncheon, where the
Grand Master of Masons and many other dignitaries were in attendance, Dad Rannebarger
was asked by Dad Watson to escort Bruce to the podium. There, Dad Close learned that
he was the Advisor of the Year, not Jeff.
But the fun wasn't over yet. Later in the session, Dad Close was named Director of
Safety by Dad Watson, Executive Officer for Ohio DeMolay. Congratulations, Bruce.

A Legacy Begins
Groveport's Installation on July 7
As of about 9:00PM on Saturday, July 7th, the six month legacy of Bradley Allen Thompson
began. The new officers of the chapter are Bro Brad Thompson as Master Councilor,
Bro Josh LaPenta as Senior Councilor, and Bro John Clark IV as Junior Councilor.
Spending the last year learning the trials and tribulations of being a councilor, Brad had
become a master of public speaking, and so he opened his term as Master Councilor of
Groveport Chapter by saying, "...Uh...Um...Don?" Bro Don Thompson, PMC, being the
Installing officer for the Installation, quickly retook control of the meeting, one of
his most annoying qualities, and the meeting was then set back on course.
After the Installation of officers, Dad Al Pettigrew handed out merit awards to
the several Demolays, including Bros Scott Bailey, Josh LaPenta, John
Clark, Matt Glass, and Brad Thompson. The awards which were presented
are too many to all be named, but there were still a few awards which require announcement.
Bro Tom Burrnet, the Chapter's unofficial Sweetheart, received both the Officer of the
Term award, and the 'TWIT' of the Term award. Other 'Twits' included Dad Dan Cogley,
who received the Honorary Twit award, and Bro Mike Longnecker, who received the first
ever 'Lifetime Achievement' award for his supreme display of amazing 'Twitdom' throughout
the years.
Shortly after the officers were installed into their new stations, all in attendance were
lucky to be witness to the rare ceromony of the Chevalier. Bro Ben Foley, PMC of
Groveport Chapter was at last inducted into the elite circle of Active and Senior DeMolays,
and the honor of the Chevalier. Bro Foley was guided through the ceremony by Dad Jeff
Rannebarger as the Grand Commander, Dad Eddie Reynolds as the Commander in the
West, and Dad Tom Hess as the Commander in the South. Other officers included
Dad Close as Grand Marshal and Dad Dana Parsons I as Grand Chaplain, and all
other present Chevaliers also aided in the ceremony.
At the conclusion of the Installation, the festivities began, and we all relished the
most amazing hot and BBQ chicken wings ever served , compliments of Dad Paul
Thompson. With the end of the meal came the beginning of the dance, and never had
more beautiful young women graced a dance floor. Rainbows and Jobies from all over
Ohio were in attendance. The music was supplied by Chapter Dad Bruce Close, and
by his unarguable rules, the strictness of which hasn't been seen since the days of the
guillotine, the dance ended at 11:30PM sharp, and the Masonic Youth of Ohio disbanded,
setting off towards home.
