Ohio DeMolay Leaders of Excellence
An experience every demolay should have
By: John Ruiz
I had that opportunity to share with a few members of my chapter and others from
around the state, an experience of a lifetime. Attending ODLE (Ohio DeMolay Leaders
of Excellence) was a great eye-opener for everyone in attendance. It not only taught
us how to be leader's and plan successful terms, it showed us the true meaning of
brotherhood.
When you get there you are placed into cabins with people that you don't know and
that is what's considered your 'chapter'. You have to work with these strangers for
successful chapters and develop cooperation and teamwork. You do this through planning
events, playing sports, and holding meetings every night.
I personally know every one of those guys that were in my cabin by the second night
at ODLE. We knew each other by first names, and were friends, more importantly we
were brothers. I'd like to mention and thank Steve Brownlee, Lance Kittinger
(Bugs), Jacob Pelfrey, Daniel Shady, Philip McClure (all the way from
Oklahoma), Tom U'Ren, Cory Ward, and Pete Wilson (communist) for
making that trip a blast and igniting friendships that I hope will go a long way.
I will never forget the experiences that I had at ODLE and will work my hardest to send
everyone that wants to go next year, on the expence of the chapter. It's a great thing
and it's my mission to let every DeMolay experience it as well.
